Day 243: When Casting Companies Call…

In October 2010 — while I was in Key West  — a lovely girl named Jax (who I met through my facebook group) forwarded me a casting call from a production company looking for a “travel host”. She thought I sounded like what they were looking for — and when I read the description, I agreed — They were looking for me! Well, except for those pesky parts about “Anthropology” & “PHD’s” . ;)

I love(d) the idea of being a “travel host” — I mean, who doesn’t!? — so I couldn’t resist sending in my information and a silly photo that would have to pass as a headshot.

And then time passed — months, in fact — and I forgot about it.

And then — yesterday — I got a call from an assistant at the production company. My resume and letter had traveled through the channels necessary to arrive in the hands of the casting director who took notice — Would I be available for an interview [this morning]?

Of course I had to think about it — because as you know — I am a very important busy man.

And when that fraction-of-a-nanosecond-so-infinitesimally-small-it’s-probably-not-even-worth-mentioning passed and I came to my senses — I said “yes”. And then I went about my day not thinking about it at all.

And then it actually happened. And by “it”, I mean we spoke — this morning. Not long ago, in fact.

I found out pretty quickly that the casting for which I applied had been filled — by some anthropology oriented PHD person, no less — which begs the question, “Why were we talking if not for me to be considered for the casting the casting in question?”

Well, we were talking for a better reason than being considered to be cast for a show — and what could be better than that?

ANSWER: Having a show developed around you — and by “you”, I mean “me”. :)

Yes, if you just read that as “having a show developed around me” — then you read it correctly.

Of course — it’s all just talk at this point & simply the potential for something to happen — but before yesterday, this wasn’t even on my radar or in my realm of possibilities.

So many things would need to happen in order for anything like this to become “real” — but if you know me at all, you know I live for the world of possibilities. And that’s a large part of what my present journey is about — I wanted to free myself from the life I had, to help create the life I wanted — which is housed in a world of possibility that wouldn’t exist if I wasn’t doing what I’m doing — sacrifices and all.

I wanted to become part of experiences that wouldn’t have been possible if I didn’t deliberately decide to live beyond my comfort zone and take a leap of faith. And getting a call from a casting company about the possibility of building a show around me would never have happened if I hadn’t said “Hasta la vista” to my former life.

And let me tell you — even if nothing actually comes of this, I am so incredibly excited to simply have the opportunity to think & dream about it as if it could — because there is a tremendous amount of power & energy in that.

It gives me hope and it fills me with enthusiasm — and it gives me the confidence that I am, in fact, on the right track — as unconventional as it may be.

Let me present all of this to you in “Zero terms”…

I’ve always considered winning the lottery to be a distinct possibility in my life — because people do win (and I don’t care about “the odds”) — but it’s based on “chance” and has nothing to do with talent, skill, or really anything to do with people…

Still, as unlikely as winning the lottery would be, I was actually a little disappointed that my numbers didn’t match the $355 million mega millions jackpot recently — I thought, “winning would be a great finish/start of my story”.

So with my “I-could-win-the-lottery” mentality — having a real discussion with an established international production company about having a show developed around me and then actually having it happen would be a lot like winning the lottery — except it’s not based on random chance — it’s based on real people and real energy to make things happen. And I think that’s very encouraging & exciting! :)

Plus, if one company thinks there might be something to it — then there’s always the possibility that another will. ;)

So there you have it, people — I assure you my feet are on the ground, but my horizon & world of possibility just expanded in a big way. And I’m smiling.

I think there is only one word left that truly wraps this up nicely…

AWESOME! :)

Thanks KJ. If enough people actually believe that it’s possible (and this is nearly my most “liked” post ever) — then I have no doubt that it is.

Either way, I’m swimming in a world of possibilities now — and it’s exciting stuff.
