My dating profile

Posted on by Zero Dean in !Featured, Blog | 1 Comment
NOTE: Since this post was written, I’ve actually created a page dedicated to my online dating profiles. You can find it in all its glory by following the aforementioned link.

Your Mission If You Choose To Accept It…

Greetings potential applicant!

First, I cannot confirm nor deny that I am a secret agent. But let’s just say, hypothetically speaking, that if I was, I might be looking for a secret agent partner. So let’s just run with that…

As all great partners do, we would, of course, need to have great chemistry — often able to tell what the other is thinking with only so much as a wink and a smile. Or maybe a twitchy eyebrow and a crazy & totally inappropriate cackle (or is that just me?). But if mind reading doesn’t work, then talking is always a good “Plan B” (note, a good agent always has a “Plan B”).

This partner I am (hypothetically!) looking for would be smart, open minded & have a great sense of humor (in fact, she might be wearing a smile right now!). She would also have an inclination towards adventure and the (quite possibly unrealized) desire to live a remarkable life.

Trust me, dull & boring is overrated! Momma always said, “If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always gotten.” Then she packed up, left home, and we never saw her again (Ok, that’s not true!).

So now that I just lied to you (It’s ok, it’s part of the test, you’ll see), it’s important to note that trust, honesty & good communication between secret agents is vital. Additionally, quick wits & independent thinking definitely come in handy, too! As do catchy one liners like, “Chill out” just before you spill ice-water on a bad guy.

And if you are skilled at witty banter, and if witty banter actually weighed anything, then witty banter would definitely be worth its weight in gold. But it doesn’t, so it isn’t, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t desirable!

As an active agent, you’ll need to be in fair physical condition to keep up. If you’re not in fair physical condition, then the idea of getting in shape probably appeals to *part of you (*the out of shape part!).

Though, technically, if you’re fair game for having fun, you don’t have to be an “athlete”, or even very coordinated really (you might just be the “comedic sidekick” that everyone laughs at, I mean with!, when you trip!).

Being the adventurous type, you probably take pleasure in having new experiences, learning new skills, or occasionally doing things differently. If you’ve ever ordered dessert first, breakfast for dinner, taken the long way home (on purpose), or turned down a road just to see where it led to, that qualifies!

And in whatever setting or circumstances you find yourself, you’re quite likely to stay positive, solution-oriented, and make the most of what you have (the secret agent term for that is “resourceful”). And you mustn’t cry (much) when I always beat you at boardgames. To quote Tom Hanks, “There’s no crying in”…boardgames. (Yes, secret agents play boardgames).

Your Secret Agent Aptitude Test results (you took your SAATs, right?) probably indicate that you enjoy the occasional formal function as well as appreciate traveling to both local & exotic destinations.

The results also probably show that you’re thoughtful, affectionate & considerate of others. And you likely appreciate spontaneity, creativity, and nice surprises.

Sure, you might think I was absolutely crazy for putting the bed in front of the TV in the living room & pretending “we’re at a hotel!” for a night, but you’d also find it cute, funny & fun and would probably be willing to play along. Except, now that I’ve mentioned it, it would have to be something totally different (but equally interesting).

And finally, while having a fair number of things in common is great, it’s actually our differences and combined skills that help us grow & learn from each other (as well as help get us out of predicaments).

Sooooo… hypothetically speaking, if I was looking for a partner, and if you found this somewhat amusing, intriguing, or appreciate originality or creativity, then you’d probably want to get in touch (as this profile was written just for you).

Day 77: Dating on the road. Can it be done?

*Gasp!* Online dating! SHOCKER. Whatever.

There’s a funny thing that happened before I left on my journey — my six month membership to Match.com automatically renewed. Ok, that’s not really funny — I’ve destroyed my credibility! Oh no!

Anyway, let me start by saying, if you’ve never tried it, don’t knock online dating (OKCupid is a free option). It’s actually pretty handy — you’re not stuck meeting complete strangers in strange places. Automatically having a fair number of things in common with people you meet is more than a little convenient.

So if you’re single and you never considered trying online dating, just know that it works, provided you have certain expectations going into it — you have to be ready for a whole slew of odd and unusual…”encounters”. But I won’t go into that mess now. But believe me, I have stories. (And some of those stories are the reason some of my friends want me to write a book.)

Day 76: Let me remind you.

Posted on by Zero Dean in !Featured, Blog | 1 Comment

Have you ever thought, “There has to be more to life than this”? or wished you had the courage to take that leap to pursue the things you’re most passionate about…even if succeeding at any one of them seemed impossible?

I have.

And if you thought those things, did you ever wonder about what you’d have to sacrifice or how far you’d be willing to go to take that leap?

I did (I thought about it a lot.)

I remembered all the dreams and aspirations I had as a kid. I wanted to be a pirate, an astronaut, an explorer, a construction worker, and an architect (as a kid, I saw no reason why I couldn’t be all of those things!) Read more

Day 75: “I don’t feel very inspiring.” said the ‘inspiring man’.

Posted on by Zero Dean in !Featured, Blog | Leave a comment

I’m writing this from a Starbucks in Gillette, Wyoming. I arrived in Gillette last night around 7:30pm to an “electric” atmosphere.

No, it’s not that kind of place.

What I mean is that I arrived in the middle of a lightning storm. And I found myself perfectly content to simply sit in my car and watch the sky (I move around so much, sometimes it’s nice to sit still — in an unmoving vehicle.)

I could go on to explain I visited the Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument yesterday —  and the other random stops I made along the way to Gillette, but those who follow me on Twitter or Facebook have already heard it all.

And I know many of you are wondering when “Stage 2” is really going to kick in. When am I going to get all real and emotional (again)?

First, I haven’t had a real shower in 5 days. I’m at that point. “Do I smell?” — “Do I smell?” — “Do I smell?

That said, I’ve done my best to stay clean and I don’t feel completely gross (just somewhat gross.)

I even resorted to shaving at a rest stop in Montana yesterday. (It’s amazing how many people don’t wash their hands when you’re at one of the sinks all lathered up with shaving cream.) Read more

Day 61: The End is also the Beginning.

Posted on by Zero Dean in !Featured, Blog | 3 Comments

Yesterday I posted a very short update indicating that I’d spent the entire day rethinking everything (and that it was good).

Since then, a few people have asked, “Well, what did you come up with?”

Fair question, though not an entirely simple one to answer. There’s a lot I’ve thought about that I simply haven’t reached a “conclusion” with.

But here’s what I can tell you… Read more

Day 23: The Great Bike Robbery.

Posted on by Zero Dean in !Featured, Facebook | Leave a comment

If you take a good look at the photo above, you may notice a distinct lack of any kind of bikes in the image…but there should be.

Because the last time I looked at the back of my 4-Runner — which was only a few short hours of darkness ago — there was a nice (if I do say so myself) full-suspension mountain bike and an amazing (you’ll have to take my word for it) 14lb carbon fiber bullet-of-a-road-bike locked and chained to the bike rack.

So if it’s not obvious from looking at the cut chains and the complete lack of any self-propelled 2 wheeled vehicles in the photo, my bikes were stolen. Oh yes, people, I was robbed.

I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised. My sister if a very casual fashion mentioned this area used to be referred to as Felony Flats. But now, it’s an up-and-coming neighborhood in the Portland, Oregon area.

That’s awesome — except that didn’t stop the guy(s) from stealing my bikes. They must not have gotten the memo — this area is off limits to crooks and criminals, yo!

And while it does suck to suddenly find yourself unable to whip up and down mountain trails or fly through the breeze with ease on two wheels, it’s not all bad. Because the good news is that this is something I don’t have to worry about anymore — because I will admit that before today, having my bikes stolen was a concern.

So as I sit here and type this, I am almost relieved. Almost.

I always knew this was a possibility going into this — I could’ve left my bikes in storage — but I took the chance anyway.

I just didn’t think it would only take 23 days before it happened — before I even had the chance to ride either bike on my journey.

Oh well — I hope whoever ends up with them (particularly the ~14 lb road bike) enjoys them immensely. And I mean that. If you’re going to steal something of mine, the least you could do is enjoy it, please. It will make me feel better knowing they won’t go to waste. Read more
